Rails Developer

factor[e] design initiative

We're a digital product studio backed by a passionate team of creative thinkers and problem solvers. We've helped a diverse group of clients from small startups to some of the region’s largest companies create products that put people first. We enjoy working with people that are excited to learn new skills, share their ideas and hold their work to high standards of quality.

We're currently seeking an experienced web developer to help us staff a challenging but exciting long-term project; you can expect to gain valuable experience in cloud infrastructure (AWS), data curation, microservices architecture, Go, Ruby, a mix of database technologies including DynamoDB and MySQL and more. Some team tasks include data retrieval and analysis tasks, possibly using R or other statistical tools. This project team serves one of our biggest retainer clients. Their web application is one of the highest-profile web apps we work on (note: it’s not currently in our portfolio, so detective work on our website probably won’t help you much!)

Outside your project team, you'll get a chance to craft the culture of a great company. You'll work with people who are deeply passionate about their work, who constantly strive to be the best at it, but who also understand - and maintain - work/life balance.Skills we need you to have:

Skills we need you to have:

  • Experience in Ruby on Rails and database development
  • You are patient, flexible and professional. You are confident enough to state your opinion to the project lead and to the client, but are willing to accept alternate points of view
  • You are happy working on a single large project for months and perhaps years in a professionally managed context that includes ongoing cycles of analysis, estimation, feature development, testing, and release

Experience that would help you stand out:

  • Front-end development
  • Native iOS and Android app development
  • Programming in Go

Some of the perks:

  • Competitive salary with 3 weeks vacation and benefits
  • A work MacBook Pro
  • A family-friendly work environment that accommodates flex hours and the need to work from home
  • A dog-friendly office
  • All the Relay Coffee you can drink and all the snacks you can eat
  • De La Terre snacks on Friday mornings and the beer/wine of your choice Friday afternoon
  • Once monthly all-staff development days with a catered lunch, learning opportunities and company updates
