Ladies Learning Code is a Canada-wide not-for-profit organization that runs workshops for women and youth who want to learn beginner-friendly computer programming and other technical skills in a social and collaborative way. Today they have 22 chapters (and counting) across Canada, a thriving girls' program called Girls Learning Code and co-ed kids program called Kids Learning Code and a big goal to teach 200,000 Canadian women and youth to code by 2020. With sponsors and community partners that include TELUS, Microsoft, Scotiabank, Google and many more, Ladies Learning Code has become synonymous with technology education in Canada.
Teachers Learning Code is one of Ladies Learning Code’s latest initiatives. This program for educators is focused on inspiring kids to be builders – not just consumers - of technology through coding activities and challenges. We believe that in order to transform the lives of Canadian youth and empower them with the critical 21st century skills they will need to thrive in our digital world, we must first empower their teachers. Teachers Learning Code (TLC) is providing both traditional and non-traditional educators with the resources that they need to feel comfortable teaching skills like coding and computational thinking to their students. To date, resources available include a free resource guide, free lesson plans, and train-the-trainer sessions.
As the Program Manager for this innovative initiative, you will be responsible for taking Teachers Learning Code from a fledgling initiative to a national program.
We are seeking someone who has a deep passion for education and pedagogy, but who finds themselves frustrated by the limitations of our current educational system. The Program Manager for Teachers Learning Code must be someone who is knowledgeable enough about the system to be able to navigate it effectively, but who isn’t afraid to cut through red tape in the name of better serving Canadian youth.
The successful candidate for this position will be someone who has a deep knowledge base when it comes to pedagogy, curriculum design, and program design. While previous teaching experience is an asset, it is not necessary, as this role will focus more on program design than program delivery.
Not technical? No problem. The first little while in this role will be a technical “crash course”, getting you trained on basic coding, on computational thinking principles, and on tools like Scratch.
Ultimately, this role will be shaped by the person who fills it -- you will help determine what strategies and efforts are required to get the job done. The position will require you to be self-directed, creative, innovative and flexible. We are looking for someone who has displayed strong leadership throughout their career to date, and who has brought an entrepreneurial flair to every endeavour that they have undertaken.

Work hours are flexible working from home or independently from workshop space. The environment will be that of an alternative, open workspace. This role reports to Carolyn Van, Director of Youth Programming.
1. Accountability It is important that you work well with your local community to make sure that we make promises that we can deliver on, and that the quality of all information, resources, and trainings that we provide is second-to-none.
2. Communicating the Teachers Learning Learning Code Message As a Program Manager, it is incredibly important that you understand and communicate the Teachers Learning Code message and value proposition -- as well as its broader context within the digital literacy and coding education movement -- whenever you represent the program or the Ladies Learning Code organization. Clarity and consistency of messaging is key when developing relationships with funders, government bodies, and other key stakeholders.
3. Self-drive While you will have the support of your manager to guide you in your role, every person on our small team has a full plate, so we all have to be self-driven and self-motivated team players who are willing to dive in, get their hands dirty, and ask for help as needed!
