About the MaRS Communications Team

You’ll be joining a close-knit team of talented, hard-working communications pros. We’ve been developing our growth marketing strategy, and our strong, multi-skilled team is able to produce world-class branded content campaigns with viral social media outreach. Everyone is versatile and ready to pitch in to help during busy times (always). We’re quirky (giphy contests galore), multi-faceted (we do everything from writing and photography to graphic design and videography), well-travelled (true fact: one of us has even travelled in a tornado) and very supportive.

About your role

You are a digital marketer who likes to explore new creative experiences whether on the YouTube platform or working alongside traditional media partners like VICE. In this role, you will report to the Executive Lead, Communications, and will support the team in their efforts to distribute content across MaRS and its partner platforms by experimenting with “funnel” marketing tactics. You love to leverage data and are prepared to roll up your sleeves to curate content and execute digital advertising campaigns with the singular goal of driving engagement and participation in programs and events.

What you’ll be doing

  • Design, plan and implement MaRS digital marketing strategy that aligns with the overall divisional priorities and the strategic marketing and recruitment goals of each department.
  • Optimize fully integrated digital campaigns based on data analysis, best practices and strong understanding of our client base (including stakeholders and clients) by working closely with the Director, Marketing and Communications.
  • Oversee the measurement and performance of digital marketing efforts, including: setting benchmarks, KPIs (key performance indicators), and campaign goals, analyzing data, providing accurate and actionable reporting to the management team, identifying and supporting campaign performance optimization tactics.
  • Oversee digital marketing platforms and initiatives, including: websites and email marketing efforts, while collaborating with the Director, Marketing and Communications on content execution and analysis of content across social media channels.
  • Oversee a variety of marketing tactics such as SEM (Search Engine Marketing), paid social advertising, SEO, retargeting, landing pages, A/B testing, funnel optimization and others to drive traffic and maximize conversions.
  • Remain abreast of changes in the digital marketing environment in order to monitor and recommend new electronic tools for use in marketing strategies.
    Perform ongoing analysis of our online properties – through the lens of keyword research, SEO (search engine optimization), content, link structure, information architecture, usability, accessibility, and regulatory compliance (AODA, CASL, privacy) – to improve website analytics and overall user experience.
  • Manage web development & design for all MaRS business units and set priorities for new projects. Co-ordinate with MaRS IT to ensure digital initiatives are fully integrated and well-planned.
  • Manage budgets for marketing projects and ad campaigns.
  • Work closely with the Director, Marketing and Communications to ensure a holistic communications and brand management plan is achieved.
  • Monitor campaign performance and communicate results to senior leadership, offering recommendations to address variances when required.
  • Manage two staff, as well as several freelancers.
  • Present and sell new digital initiatives to senior-level executive team to garner support and influence the decision to acquire and launch.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will demonstrate passion for using innovation to drive positive societal and economic outcomes, as well as working with innovative people, government ministries, companies and non-profit partners to scale innovation for impact.

We are seeking:

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience as a digital marketer
  • Experience in identifying target audiences and devising digital campaigns that engage, inform and motivate
  • Experience in optimizing landing pages and user funnels
  • Demonstrable experience in leading and managing SEO/SEM, marketing databases, email marketing initiatives, social media and/or display advertising campaigns Up to date with the latest trends and best practices in online measurement
  • Experience with A/B and multivariate experiments
  • Strong team management and communication skills
  • Familiarity with web design and development, working knowledge of WordPress and HTML/CSS
  • Excellent analytical and project management skills

Working conditions
