UX Designer

ReCollect Systems Inc

ReCollect is looking for a skilled UX Designer with a passion for improving the way people interact with their local governments. We would love you to join the ReCollect delivery team, and help us build civic technologies for hundreds of cities and local governments across North America.

As a UX Designer, you will help refine and improve existing ReCollect products, as well as design how new products will work. You will interact with people and be involved in projects all over the world, and you will have opportunities to make data driven decisions that help real people - maybe even your neighbours!

You will have great peers to work with who will encourage you to capitalize your skills and use your creativity. You will work very closely with our Director of Products, who is based in New York. You will join our delivery team, which is geographically distributed throughout North America, and has many, many years of telecommuting experience working on highly productive teams.

This listing is for a full-time position, based anywhere in Canada. This posting closes at midnight on Sunday, December 10th, 2017.

What We Are Looking For

The right person for this job will have several years of experience in UX roles, ideally on web and mobile products.

You will pursue the strategic goals of creating consistent and intuitive products, growing and maintaining our Design Guide, and collecting metrics to make data-driven decisions. Tactically, you will collaborate closely with Product Management, as well as our amazing team of talented and engaging developers, as we continuously improve the services we provide to cities and their residents.

Ideally, you will have some experience working on a distributed team. You will understand how to keep yourself productive, happy and healthy while working from your home office or co-working space. When we get together a few times a year for all-hands face-to-face, we hope you will value the time with your awesome peers!

You will have a lot to share and teach, and also a desire to learn and grow. We are all about learning and getting smarter as we build ReCollect! We hope working at ReCollect will help you be happy, healthy and have lots of new lessons and learnings to share.

You must be prepared for hard work with our small team, as we continue to explore new markets and customer segments. You will need to be comfortable with ambiguity, working within constraints and making decisions to keep our future options as open as possible. You should also be prepared to occasionally carry the weight for others and take on tasks outside of your typical responsibilities when needed.

You will be:

  • collaborating with Product Management to gather & evaluate new requirements
  • auditing the consistency of the experience across our products
  • designing user interfaces to solve problems defined by Product Managers
  • produce storyboards, wireframes, and/or mockups for developers, and support them as needed
  • ensure the quality of user facing features as they are released
  • helping us think about how to do all of this more efficiently!

We will support you with:

  • Stable and friendly processes and team (blame-free retrospectives, little-a agile, continuous delivery, lots of data)
  • A clear vision of where we want and need to get to. (Stable strategic priorities, no giant swings in the idea du jour)
  • An existing, stable product that customers LOVE
  • Excellent communication & dev tools. (Macs, Slack, Pivotal Tracker,, ...)
  • Peers with many years of varied SaaS experience.

Ideally you will have experience with these technologies:

  • Modern design tools (Balsamiq, Illustrator, Sketch, ...)
  • Project Management tools (Pivotal Tracker, Asana, ...)
  • WCAG accessibility requirements
  • Modern HTML
  • and maybe you know a little Javascript?

And will have:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Some command line skills
  • Ability to self-prioritize your work
  • Ideally: a second language (ideally French)

Our customers are mostly local government organizations, and you will get to interact with them and learn about their challenges.

Most importantly, we want you to be bright and fun. We also want you to care about a greener planet, happy citizens, and more efficient governments.

If this sounds like a good fit for your skills, and you are up for a challenge in the civic technology space... please get in touch and tell us why you are uniquely qualified to join our team.
